Going Down the Bayou

Wanting to travel but not sure where to go? Why not consider the bayous of Louisiana? My clients recently traveled to Baton Rouge where they stayed at a perfectly located hotel in the heart of the city. They enjoyed outings in the area including a swamp airboat ride and a guided tour of a sugar plantation. They also sampled fantastic southern food at cafes and restaurants near their hotel.

On their swamp airboat ride they were able to catch sight of the local flora, fauna, and alligators—a huge draw for those visiting Louisiana. The alligators are fed regularly, so they are likely to approach the boats in a docile manner. Make no mistake, though, they are still dangerous so no touching! My clients also enjoyed the stunning house and grounds of the Houmas House, an historic plantation. The plantation is circa 1840, and the main house is a Greek revival mansion. The guides dress in historic-period costumes, and the house boasts multiple fine dining spots on the property.

Louisiana is also known for other spots, of course, including New Orleans. You can enjoy major sporting events as well as parades, music, and nightlife. It’s a popular cruise port, so adding a day to the beginning or end of your cruise to explore the city is always a popular option for exploring Louisiana.
